Blessed be water, our first mother

“Blessed be water, our first mother.” Words from the end of a John O’Donohue poem that I inscribed onto a selection of hand-carved ceramic pieces and placed as a blessing in a small and delicate river bed in Svitene, Latvia.

The installation occurred in various river beds in the area, and followed the curves of each natural bend, in the hopes that the words and my intentions would be carried down and felt by this vital element in some small and delicate way. I’d like to think that Nature hears our prayers and love for her and appreciates our creativity, as Robin Wall Kimmerer says, “What else can you offer the earth, which has everything? What else can you give but something of yourself”. This was my humble offering.
