What is failure but just another learning?
My journey with ceramics has helped to reframe what it means to fail, and that failure really is success, as with each so called ‘failure’ a growth point emerges, a new learning, and the gift of allowing myself to not have all the answers in this inifinitely varied and complex creative practice and just enjoy the process as each kiln opening occurs. The more I explore ceramics, the more I realise the need for failure and how I have been conditioned to fear and avoid it. The learning journey has been steep and is at just the beginning stages, but i am starting to respond to loss and frustration with a sense of beginner’s mind, fostering grit, and a responsive bouncing back from a cracked pot, a disappointing end or a piece that just doesn’t meet the mark for my designer eye. Failure as a means of becoming comfortable with accepting what is, knowing what to improve and consider for the next creation. And starting again.
